Job Title: Senior Field Service Engineer - EV
Job Summary
Join our team as a Senior Field Service Engineer specializing in electric vehicles (EVs) and perform advanced electrical apparatus work at customer facilities. Your expertise will encompass electrical testing, preventative maintenance, commissioning, upgrades, and repairs of electrical apparatus. You'll play a crucial role in troubleshooting, training, ensuring safety protocols, and maintaining strong customer interactions while documenting your findings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct mechanical and electrical tasks on equipment involved in power transmission, distribution, and generation at customer sites.
- Interpret manuals and schematics to diagnose and resolve equipment issues effectively.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain all components within a substation environment.
- Lead and execute sophisticated testing protocols, including:
- Transformer Testing: Power factor, TTR, insulation resistance, SFRA, winding resistance, partial discharge, and leakage reactance.
- Cable Testing: Insulation resistance, tan delta, hipot, TDR, partial discharge, and cable thumper.
- Circuit Breaker Testing: Insulation resistance, contact resistance, power factor, breaker timing, SF6 gas analysis, CT testing, high current testing, secondary injection testing, and vacuum bottle integrity testing.
- Test both electrical-mechanical and solid-state relays.
- Engage in the installation, maintenance, and repair of various electrical equipment.
- Participate in planning and conducting safety meetings and training sessions.
- Assist management in effectively planning, scheduling, executing, and managing costs of field projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of industry standards like NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA regulations, and safety laws.
- Strong diagnostic skills for complex mechanical and electrical systems.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proficiency in standard PC applications, including email, internet functionalities, data entry, and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks while prioritizing effectively to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with sound judgement.
- Familiarity with Doble DTAF and Power DB is advantageous; training will be provided.
- Demonstrated reliability in attendance and punctuality for all work-related commitments.
- Strong organizational skills for timely reporting of expenses and project updates.
- Commitment to maintaining tools and test equipment in excellent condition.
Work Environment
- Willingness to relocate within 60 miles of the designated office.
- Typical working hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30 am - 4:30 pm; flexibility with hours is essential based on project requirements.
- You will collaborate closely and safely near live electrical substations.
- Availability for overtime, including nights, weekends, and some holidays is necessary.
- Travel for overnight, multi-day projects is required.
- Participate in emergency on-call duty to address customer emergencies promptly.
Education and Work Experience
- High School Diploma or GED is mandatory; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology, or relevant military experience is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years solid experience in electrical substation testing, construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, assembling, and commissioning is required.
- Capability to achieve NETA level III or IV certification within 6 months of hire.
- Experience in project management with the ability to assist in project planning and execution.
Other Requirements
- Passing a pre-employment criminal background and motor vehicle check is needed.
- Successful completion of pre-employment drug, alcohol testing, and ongoing random checks is required.
- A valid driver's license is necessary, with the ability to obtain an endorsement for operating vehicles up to 26k lbs.
- Capability to lift and manage at least 50 lbs. is essential.
- Willingness to obtain a company-paid TWIC card, OSHA 10/30-hour certification, MSHA certification, NFPA 70E, and CPR training.
