Grid Connections Specialist

Be at the forefront of the UK’s energy transition by securing and optimising grid connections for one of the nation’s leading EV charging networks. This is an exciting opportunity to influence the roll-out of Instavolt’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and PV applications.

You’ll be welcomed into a growing, innovative team where you’ll work closely with the Connections Team and report directly to the Grid Connections Manager. Your technical insight and commercial awareness will support the delivery of efficient, future-proofed connections across the UK. What you’ll do

You’ll play a key role in the Connections Team, leading on complex grid applications and supporting continuous improvement across the wider pipeline.

You will

  • Lead and deliver formal grid connection applications.
  • Support technically challenging grid projects alongside the Connections Team.
  • Report to the Grid Connections Manager on project progress, risks, and design decisions.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of G99/G100 import/export limitation schemes.
  • Optimise grid connection strategies to reduce cost and improve delivery timelines.
  • Ensure DNOs provide the most efficient Point of Connection.
  • Share relevant updates with internal teams via Salesforce.
  • Review and apply changes in technical standards and drive design improvements.

Project Development & Collaboration

  • Act as the grid design lead from feasibility through construction.
  • Support due diligence efforts by addressing grid-related queries during project acquisition.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with DNOs and TSOs to ensure compliance and progression.

Mentorship & Best Practice

  • Provide technical guidance to junior members of the Connections Team.
  • Share best practices to improve grid connection processes and engineering solutions.

What you’ll need

  • Broader interest in grid charging mechanisms and regulatory frameworks.
  • 3+ years of experience in UK grid connections.
  • Deep knowledge of GB Distribution and Transmission networks.
  • Strong understanding of both generation and demand connection processes.
  • Familiarity with protection schemes and communication protocols.
  • Commercial awareness of how connection design impacts project viability.
  • Experience engaging with DNOs, TSOs, and ICPs.
  • Working knowledge of UK grid regulations and policy.
