Battery Build Technician - Oxfordshire - EV / Automotive - £45k

Location: Oxfordshire

Salary: £30,000 – £45,000 (dependent on experience)

As a Battery Build Technician, you will play a key role in the hands-on assembly, testing, and integration of high-performance battery systems used in a variety of applications, from electric vehicles to industrial and off-grid energy solutions. Key Responsibilities

  • Battery Assembly
  • Build and assemble lithium-ion battery modules and packs to high safety and quality standards.
  • Install and wire battery management systems (BMS), cooling systems, fuses, and connectors.
  • Testing and Validation
  • Perform functional and safety tests on assembled packs using diagnostic equipment.
  • Conduct pre-commissioning checks and report performance data for quality control.
  • Engineering Support
  • Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to refine battery designs and prototypes.
  • Assist in documenting build processes and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Workshop Operations
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workshop environment.
  • Follow health and safety protocols related to high-voltage systems.

Requirements

Essential

  • Practical experience with electrical/mechanical assembly – automotive, aerospace, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and battery system layouts.
  • Familiarity with basic diagnostic tools (multimeters, CAN tools, etc.).
  • High attention to detail and methodical approach to technical work.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and a strong team player.

Desirable

  • Previous work with high-voltage (HV) battery systems.
  • Formal qualifications in automotive, electrical, or mechanical engineering (e.g., HNC, NVQ, BTEC).
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 or equivalent training in cable and harness assembly.

Location & Hours

  • Based full-time in Oxfordshire.
  • Standard working hours with occasional flexibility depending on project requirements.
