Role Summary
Internship Term: Winter 2026 (January 2026 - August 2026)
Rivian internships are experiences optimized for student candidates. To be eligible, you must be an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited program during the internship term with an expected graduation date between December 2026 through June 2028

We are seeking a motivated Software Engineer Intern to join our Telematics team. The Telematics team focuses on enabling end-to-end functionalities involving Data Collection, Privacy, Edge AI/ML and many other connected features within the vehicle. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in modern C++ and Rust. You will also learn about operating system concepts in a real-world, resource-constrained environment. You will work on cutting-edge systems, develop robust unit tests, and contribute to high-impact embedded software projects under the guidance of our experienced engineers.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of embedded software applications using Modern C++ or Rust.
- Contribute to code quality through unit testing (GTest, GMock) and adherence to coding standards.
- Learn and apply operating system concepts (e.g., memory management, concurrency, multi-threading) to embedded systems.
- Help optimize performance in resource-constrained environments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support project success.
- Gain experience with embedded databases, TCP/IP stack, and middleware components.
- Work with data serialization technologies such as Protocol Buffers (Protobuf).
Qualifications
- Must be currently pursuing a bachelors, masters, or PhD degree at an accredited university
- Actively pursuing a degree or one closely related in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Coursework or project experience in C/C++ or Rust.
- A strong desire to learn about distributed systems, networking, and real-time communication protocols.
- Familiarity with Linux-based systems.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and a strong capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Effective communication skills.
- Familiarity with modern build systems such as Bazel.
- Experience working on vehicle communication protocols (e.g., CAN, Ethernet, UDS).
- Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices.
- Familiarity with TensorFlow Lite or ONNX.
Pay Disclosure
Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Internships: The range of pay for internships is 25.00-51.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on location, and other factors permitted by law.
Rivian provides robust wellness benefits, and a medical insurance package for interns, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
